To get the whole family outside, there are great beaches along the coast made for hiking and sandcastle building in the summer. In the winter, the skiing can’t be beat in the mountains! With over 500,000 acres of preserved land, hiking in Maine is an adventure you can take part in no matter where you are in the state. There are great spots for beach hiking along the coast, and breathtaking views of waterfalls and cascades in Western Maine. If biking is more your thing, the Kennebec River Rail Trail is a family friendly trail spanning 6.5 miles through the towns of Augusta, Hallowell, Farmingdale and Gardiner.
