HALLOWELL – The Maine Tourism Association (MTA) is proud to announce that this year’s inductee into the Association’s Hall of Fame is Alvion Kimball, Chair of DownEast Acadia Regional Tourism (DART).

MTA’s Hall of Fame was created to recognize outstanding individuals who through their leadership, dedication, and professionalism have made significant and sustained contributions to the tourism industry in Maine. Every year one member of the Association is chosen to be inducted. MTA’s Annual Meeting, normally held in April, was cancelled so the award was presented at DART’s Annual Symposium held on November 19.

Kimball has served as the Chair of DART for six years, and instituted DART’s Annual Symposiums beginning in 2015. He has been a board member since 2003 as a representative of the East Penobscot Bay region. As a member of DART, he was also the leader in obtaining a state grant to celebrate the openings of the Penobscot Narrow Bridge and Observatory, the tallest bridge observatory in the world, in 2007. He also served on the Governor’s Tourism Council and as the representative to Maine Sea Grant. Kimball is a former innkeeper, opening the Orland House Bed and Breakfast in 2001. He and his wife reside in Orland.

“Alvion is a great example of what the tourism industry needs,” said Tony Cameron, CEO of the Maine Tourism Association. “He is hard-working, positive and an enthusiastic champion of the industry. He is an exceptional person and we are honored to have him in our Hall of Fame.”

Kimball was presented a gift and MTA had a video produced by Sutherland Weston highlighting his contributions to tourism, found here: https://vimeo.com/481395466

Maine is divided into eight tourism regions, each represented by a non-profit marketing organization. These organizations work with the Maine Office of Tourism to help market the state and their individual regions through diverse campaigns including websites, on-line and print advertising, and attendance at travel shows.

The Maine Tourism Association is the state’s largest tourism association and was incorporated in 1922. MTA represents members statewide that provide traditional tourism interests such as lodging, restaurants, camps and campgrounds, retail establishments, and cultural and heritage attractions.
